How much does the wrapper affect the taste of a cigar?

This is a question which is difficult to answer. The wrapper's influence on the cigar depends in part on its point of origin and the fermentation process. A Broadleaf or Maduro, for instance, innately adds more of its own taste than a Connecticut Shade.

The
size of the cigar comes into play here too. Its a question of the quantity ratio between the wrapper, the binder and the filler. Take for example a Corona: the ratio of wrapper to binder and filler is higher than in the case of the larger Churchill format which inherently has more filler.

Our on-site tests in factories have shown that the wrapper's influence on the overall taste can be as high as 50%, or more. We smoked two cigars which had the same binder and filler, but a different wrapper and it was like smoking two completely different cigars.
